I don't really mean actual petroglyphs, I think, so much as petroglyph-alikes. I'm very used to these because in various forms of horse merchandise, they're insanely common... people seem to like to make horses in a "cave-drawing" sort of style that doesn't actually look that much like a cave drawing. And some of them just shamelessly replicate some of the more famous cave paintings from Lascaux. I think it's a given that it'd be offensive to replicate meaningful symbols from other cultures, but I think you also run into that classic problem there of people outside the culture not knowing how to tell what's important from what's ancient graffiti. And that right there is another reason why the people outside the culture just shouldn't go there. I mean, I pose the question about the haida tattoo like it *is* a question, but really it's not. I'm not going to draw it, much less get the tattoo, but I think I wanted to talk about it so somebody could tell me I wasn't just overreacting to myself.
Probably I'll end up going with something more Roman-inspired, because I reckon you can't really steal from the conquerers. ;D
