I think you're absolutely right... it's hard to be offended by someone not understanding the meaning of the Lascaux horses, for example, when they're so old that we mostly don't know what they were meant to mean in the first place. ;D I really like that Lascaux horse -- probably the same one you're thinking of, that looks a bit like a modern Przewalski's -- but it's a bit more primitive than I really like in a tattoo. I like cave art to look at but not to put on me, necessarily... I like the lines a little more refined. Which is why I'm thinking more Greek or Roman. Thanks for the links! The last two are definitely along the lines of what I'm thinking of (in fact I have the second one saved already as reference art), and I particularly like that last one. I was thinking it might be really cool to get one tattooed on each leg, like bookends or something, but I'm not quite sure I'm proud enough of my thighs to do it. :D
