stuff, in addition to things

This is totally the best thing I've ever seen.
You know, until tomorrow, when I find some other "best thing I've ever seen."

In addition, I have important advice for any artists in the crowd:
- If you are impatient, do not use a wet medium.
- If you need to brush those eraser bits away, blow on them, do not wipe them with your hand. You'll smear the still-wet blood spatters EVERYWHERE, thus almost-ruining the last four hours of work with said medium.
- If you happen to smear your blood spatter, don't worry: you can always just paint on a lot more blood to make it look right. When creating Supernatural fanart, there really isn't such a thing as too much blood.
- The important thing to remember about watercolours is, once you've taken your beautiful and undiluted vibrant yellow and tried to give it depth with a few shadows, you're pretty much fucked. See above re: impatience. Even when it looks dry, it isn't. (Fuck.)
Oh wait, I forgot. You guys don't need this advice because you're smarter than me. *dies of not-smartness*
Luckily, my work was salvageable and I've got an almost-done piece of Big Bang art on my hands. I say almost-done because I'm actually letting it dry this time before I finish. I know, revolutionary, right?
In addition, thanks to all of you who voted for me in that Paperbackswap twitter background contest thingy. I didn't win the prize with cash, which is sad, but I did win credits for like 20 books. Well, in theory I won them. I'm sure I'll get them eventually. One of these days.
ANYWAY. Hi. I saw Star Trek. Did I mention that? I saw it. It was good. Chris Pine gave the camera this look and I was all, "OMG, it's Kirk!" and that one guy was so totally Spock and OMG Simon Pegg has reached a whole new level of awesomeness, and Bruce Greenwood showed up and I was like, "OMG! It's Bruce Greenwood! He needs to have sex with me a lot!" It was good times all around, really. FUN. And possibly the smoothest, most genius reinvention of a scifi franchise. Seriously, why has no one ever previously just thrown all the previous convoluted and sometimes crappy canon out the window and gone all AU on it? Brilliant. Can't wait for more. No, really. Can't wait. Nao plz.
In other other news, today at the barn it was vaccinations day. Juno is a champion, and I will never get tired of watching other people's well-bred high-dollar "well broke" domestic horses totally freak out over little things like shots while my "worthless" mustang sets the highest possible bar for good behavior. (She got her first ever rabies shot. It's too bad, because I was going to rename her "Cujuno.") Unfortunately, the mustang I'm training for somebody else didn't handle things much better than all those quarter horses. Just the sight of the vet made her lose her shit, and she actually kicked me, which I didn't think she had it in her to do anymore. (Damn you, overconfidence! Luckily, I was in very close proximity -- that's actually a good thing when a horse is kicking you, believe it or not -- and the only thing she kicked was the bottom of my boot.) It was a good experience to see how she'd react to that situation, though; at least now I have a more specific idea of what to work on to be able to vet her. And considering that last time she was vaccinated, she apparently kicked the vet twice and literally chased the poor woman out of the corral, I think we're seeing progress. She's gone from fire-breathing dragon to slower-moving komodo. Or something. To handle the stress of the day, I came home and took a shower and made art while I cooked up some homemade apple tarts.
Yeah, you wish you lived here now, don't you? My house smells like apple tarts. And they're REALLY GOOD. I'd send you some but probably the mailman would steal them, that's how good they are.
