DEAR FLIST,

By any chance are any of you very familiar with the city of Victoria, BC? If so, I should like to pick your brains. Plz comment or email agentotter [at] livejournal [dot] com. Thank you kindly.

Sincerely,

Wow, seriously?

Well, it was nice. The downtown area's kind of touristy, and real estate in the more urban area isn't cheap, IIRC. There is a university there, though. I think the winters are fairly mild.

Good farm country. Great area if you're outdoorsy--endless hectares of open land up-island. Lovely weather in the summertime, lots of green and blackberries. Lots of great boating, and of course whales and fishing. Lots of islands on the northeast side of VI, and a fairly easy trip from Seattle by ferry or plane, or from Port Angeles or Vancouver by ferry.

I wouldn't be able to speak to local politics or anything, but it's Canada, so presumably rather left of most US cities.

I liked it a lot, but I would want to be there in the winter to decide if I wanted to live there.
