Gareth Thomas comes out of the closet
Dec. 22nd, 2009 10:27 amIt's probably a little bit silly how much this delights me, but it truly does. BRAVO to you, sir. BRAVO. Gareth Thomas, a top-rated Welsh rugby player, comes out of the closet. Here's a video of him talking about it, in case like me you want to admire him on video and enjoy a nice Welsh accent.
What's even more amazing is that he's come out of the closet while still playing rugby, instead of after retirement like some other sports figures have done. He doesn't play internationally anymore, but he's still playing with the Cardiff Blues.
YOU, SIR, ARE AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN. The end.
"I feel I have achieved everything I could ever possibly have hoped to achieve out of rugby, and I did it being gay," he said. "I want to send a positive message to other gay people that they can do it, too."
